Standalone Sunday is a meme created by Megan at BookslayerReads. Where each Sunday you feature a book that is a standalone (not a part of a series) that you really like and would recommend to others. (Visit the BookSlayerReads page for more info).
Being the first Sunday of 2017, I wanted to pick a book that really stands out above the rest. I mulled over some of my past reads looking for something that is bold, and perhaps even a little controversial. It’s easy to recommend a book that’s popular and loved by everyone. It’s a little bit harder to recommend a book that is completely captivating, unforgettable, reveals a disgusting side of human reality, and is eye-opening on a level that many people avoid as it is not for the light of heart. This book does exactly that!
Fall On Your Knees is like a train wreck. It’s an addicting page turner, the kind that you can get so completely consumed by that you may as well be living it yourself. You feel the hate, the love, and especially the despair. I cried all the way through this book… Fair warning though: There are certain characters that will leave the worst of bad tastes in your mouth. There have been some very low ratings and terrible comments in reviews for Fall On Your Knees, but I would be willing to bet that even though they had negative things to say, they still read the entire book through, cover to cover, in record time. Which is the exact reasoning behind my recommendation.
No mater what emotions you feel for the characters, and no matter how disgusted you are with the family and the weirdness of their relationships with each other — Ultimately you will be attached to them!! In my opinion this is a must read. The dramatics are VERY dramatic, it’s a story that in a weird way becomes a part of you (whether you want it to or not). The characters stay with you and the twists linger long after you put it down, which is exactly what any good drama should do!
The Piper family is steeped in secrets, lies, and unspoken truths. At the eye of the storm is one secret that threatens to shake their lives — even destroy them.
Set on stormy Cape Breton Island off Nova Scotia, Fall on Your Knees is an internationally acclaimed multigenerational saga that chronicles the lives of four unforgettable sisters. Theirs is a world filled with driving ambition, inescapable family bonds, and forbidden love.
Compellingly written, by turns menacingly dark and hilariously funny, this is an epic tale of five generations of sin, guilt, and redemption.
