Poem: Sharks, Shysters, Publishing Waste. #indiauthor

Sharks shyster publishing waste,

You hide in shallows, just waiting to taste.

A writer’s blood is sweet and delicious,

When the moment is right you sink your teeth in, you’re vicious.

It’s my very first book, like a virgin I’m new,

But I hold my words sacred, I’m watching for you!

I study, I watch, I compare, and I query,

Excitement is contained until I’m tired and weary.

But don’t you worry my fine tuned sweet piece of writing,

This tired mind of mine wont give up, ’cause you’re something worth fighting.

I’ll avoid the sneaky publishers, the shallow swarming beasts,

I’ll do great by you I promise, you wont be disappointed in the least.

  1. I can really relate to this poem given as I have a manuscript going through yet another edit and I know that soon there’ll be judgemental eyes all over my pride and joy; looking for weak spots that they can fire metaphorical torpedoes at and devalue the thing I’ve worked harder on than anything in my life. It’s a really daunting thought!

    1. Daunting is the perfect word for it! Keep your eyes pealed and your standards high my friend. I’ve published a few now and have had some grave learning experiences! (which I’m still grateful for oddly enough, because I know first hand some of the mistakes NOT to make again lol) .. Good luck to you, and I can’t wait to explore your book! 😉 Congratulations on being so close to publication, how exciting!

      1. You could probably write a book about your experiences of getting published alone. That would be an interesting read.
I’m definitely not going to allow any publishers to try and mug me off. I’m a tenacious SOB and certainly not naive so I’ll definitely stand my ground when the time comes. Thank you for wishing me luck. The prospect of getting published makes me feel giddy. It’ll be everything I’ve dreamed of come true 🙂

      3. I can imagine so. If writing is what you truly love then that buzz need never fade. I know I’ll be exactly like you when it happens (not the use of “when” and not “if”).

  2. Cayman Thorn says:

Nothing is worse than an agent with charm,
They put on a smile which is brimming with harm.
They’ll tell you you’re brilliant, they’ll say that “You’re It!”,
And then you find out they were just full of . . .

Well, you get the point. Love the ode! I’m grateful to Susie Lindau and her wild parties, tell you what.

    1. Completely agreed! And YES! This was the first of Susie’s parties that I’ve joined and it was great! I found some pretty awesome reads last night 🙂
