#review The Kiss Thief, by LJ Shen #Kindleunlimited

MY REVIEW:

LJ Shen has a real nack for putting together male roles who are rich, powerful, arrogant, and quite frankly complete assholes. Ones that you LOVE to hate for that matter, and despite how big of dicks they are, you still somehow manage to root for their love and swoon over the way their hearts are captured. These strong willed, foul mouthed, dirty-minded men created by Shen are always unforgettable, such is no different in The Kiss Theif.

Wolfe is a young juicy senator with an appetite for vengeance. His enemy is a mob boss named Aurthor Rossi, and he’s long awaited his chance at not only taking down Aurthor’s operation, but setting it all up in an agonizingly calculated way. But, when Franchesca comes into the picture everything changes. Franchesca is young, absolutely stunning, and smart as a whip. She just so happens to be the infamous Mr. Rossi’s daughter. He’s raised her to be nothing but proper, and when I say nothing that isn’t an understatement. Her entire life has been spent under his protective wing. She’s been denied the life of a happy child, spending her days being pampered with money, and never allowed to take care of herself in any way. No college, no friends, no dating, no fun. Even her future husband (who she’s yet to so much as kiss) has been laid out before her and stamped by the big man as acceptable due only to his family ties to the mob.

That is, until…….

One fine day at a masquerade ball, the two are introduced. Wolfe is is usual asshole self. He’s spiteful, venomous, degrading, and undermines Frankie’s intentions of fulfilling her fate of kissing the man she’s always intended on marrying. Wolfe steps in under his mask and plants one on her for the sole purpose of crushing her heart and giving that father of hers a slap across the face. After this vengeance filled stollen kiss everything escalates.

Wolfe makes a split decision to take Frankie as his wife. He holds the murderous dirt that he has on Rossi over his head until Frankie is handed over, to be wed to a man she despises. By doing what Wolfe thinks will be an added bonus in breaking down Aurthor Rossi and ruining everything he’s built by starting at the heart of his stout traditional Italian home, Wolfe actually bites off much more than he can chew. You see, he didn’t expect Franchesca to be so insanely inocent of Aurthors bull shit. Not only that, but she isn’t exactly the papered little princess he expected her to be. She actually WANTS an education. Her pure heart, earthy personality (I say that because she’s grounded and loves to garden lol, pun intended) and quick wit soon has him mezmorized. She also finds a way to serve him a much needed slice of humble pie and forces him to eat every single bite (his actual words BTW).

Despite Wolfe’s intentions of marrying merely out of spite and tossing her aside once his new father in law has lost every single thing he’s ever loved and forced to live the remainder of his days behind bars, Wolfe falls for the girl. Also, despite Frankie’s broken heart, feeling of entrapment, and fear of everything she’s ever known of men, especially her father, she too falls head over confused heels for Wolfe. Their story isn’t a fairy tale, even though I was in tears. repeatedly. But, it does end in a practical way given their circumstances. It’s a good thing they’re each no stranger to a good fight because they do in fact have to fight for the love they’ve built on such a rocky foundation. Starting by knocking down every tainted brick and rebuilding it with truth and rightful affection.

I really enjoyed this book, and the ONLY reason I didn’t give it five stars is because I love so many other of Shen’s books more than this one. She’s amazing!

From USA Today and Washington Post bestselling author L.J. Shen comes an enemies-to-lovers romance with a twist…

They say your first kiss should be earned.

Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky.

They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred.

Mine were broken before we left church.

They say your heart only beats for one man.

Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end.

I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit.

Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.

They say that all great love stories have a happy ending.

I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.

One kiss.
Two men.
Three lives.
Entwined together.

And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.
