Happy Earth Day

What a beautiful day its been, here in central Utah (USA)!  The sun boldly graced us with its presence, the birds have been flying about, and the sounds of lawn mowers and power tools found their way throughout my neighborhood this morning. My husband even decided to take my son out on a little lizard catching adventure while my daughter and I stayed home to nap and get a some spring cleaning accomplished.

Okay, okay, she napped and I cleaned!!

I love this time of year! I love all the wet earthy and floral smells. I love the first week of straight hot days and comfortable evenings. Above MOST things, I love writing in the sun! There’s just something about dusting off the winter cobwebs and letting the crisp spring air in.

I personally don’t consider the ”First day of” markers to count for much. On the first day of winter last year, the temp where I live was in the high 70s. Then on the first day of spring we got a skiff of snow. Utah is one of those weird states that no matter what the weather is from season to season everywhere else, we’re still usually fairly out of whack. A full year of the entire planet being out of the ordinary weather-wise, has clearly intensified the od weather goings-on in this beautiful state I call home!

That said, I have a process. I don’t consider it to officially be a tank top and flip flop season until I’m able to leave a few windows in my house open through out the entire day for a full week straight. I mean sure, there are plenty of days that I can do this now and again without freezing out my little family, but until a full week is in play, it really doesn’t mean anything.

Well, I’m happy to say that today was day 7!!  Funny, that my own little process to mark the seasons actually fell on earth day!! That has to be a sign of something great, right?

I think next week I’ll me taking my little’s to pick out flowers for planting in the yard!!

Did Oviatt had a great Earth Day and I hope you did too! May your windows stay open with nice weather like what Didi is experiencing in Utah ♥ It was clear blue skies here on Canada’s West Coast today too. What was the weather like for your Earth Day?

Happy Belated Earth Day! For me, the true test of the season is when I can turn the heat off and leave it off for a while, no more temperatures dipping into the thirties at night!
